All In The Family is an American sitcom that ran on CBS-TV, based on the BBC sitcom Till Death Do Us Part, which was produced and written by Johnny Speight. The series premeired on January 12, 1971, and ended on April 8, 1979, eventually spinning off into a continuation series that fall called Archie Bunker's Place, which ran for four more seasons. All In The Family is about a cantankerous, boorish, conservative and somewhat bigoted thinking Queens, NY dockworker and part-time cab driver turned bar and grill/saloon owner Archie Bunker (Carroll O'Connor) his somewhat "dingbatty" but kind and loving wife Edith (Jean Stapleton) and the interaction with his daughter, Gloria (Sally Struthers) and liberally minded "Meathead" son-in-law Mike (Rob Reiner), who all live in the Bunker Home Together. Carroll O'Connor was nominated for eight Emmy Awards as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series; he won the award four times (1972, 1977, 1978, and 1979).. Throughout its nine seasons, the sitcom ran for a total of 210 episodes.
