This guide lists the episodes of Archie Bunker's Place which aired in season two during the 1980-81 season. Two big cast changes occured, one is the departure of Jean Stapleton midway through the previous season, which left the producers and writers clamoring at wits end to try to find an explanation; the solution was to explain that Edith Bunker died peacefully in her sleep, which left Archie to greive over the loss in a two-part opening episode titled Archie, Alone. The second big change is the departure of co-star Martin Balsam at season's end, who decided to leave over a contract dispute, and the feeling of a need to move on to other projects. It was written tha Murray's mother died while on a date with his fiancee, which ate at him, and influenced he and his fiancee to wed then move to California which was written into the episode "Goodbye Murray, Part 2" .
