Archie Sees a Mugging was the 18th episode aired during the second season and the 31st overall episode All In The Family. The Season 2 episode first aired on CBS-TV on January 29, 1972. Directed by John Rich, the original teleplay was co-written by Philip Mishkin and Don Nicholl and the story was written by Henry Garson.
Archie witnesses a mugging and does not want to appear as a witness. During questioning, he makes up a story about gangsters doing the deed, resulting in a visit to Archie's house by a pair of men Archie believes to be from the Mafia.
While moonlighting as a cabbie, Archie witnesses a mugging. For a variety of reasons, Archie is reluctant to come forth with his testimony -- but has no qualms about fabricating a story that the mugging was Mafia-related. This bit of prevarication places the Bunker family under the scrutiny of a suspicious-looking anti-defamation organization, headed by the sharkishly charming Mr. Ralph Sylvestri (Val Bisoglio).
