George and Archie Make a Deal was the 12th episode of the fifth season and the 97th overall episode of All in the Family. The Season 5 episode first aired on CBS-TV on November 30, 1974. Written by David P. Harmon, it was directed by H. Wesley Kenney.
Archie becomes suspicious when political office-seeker George is suddenly very nice to him. George Jefferson wants to run for a local council seat, but none of his neighbors will sign the petition to get him onto the ballot unless Archie first signs, necessitating an unlikely agreement between the two.
In order to run for public office, George Jefferson must have all his neighbors sign a petition in his favor. Yes, all the neighbors -- including Archie Bunker. But what will Archie demand in return for his support of George's political aspirations? It was clear when "George and Archie Make a Deal" first aired that Sherman Hemsley (George Jefferson) had outgrown his supporting-player status and would soon have a series of his own.
