Lila Garrett (born Lila Paris November 21, 1925) is a longtime activist, and award-winning screenwriter. Lila is also the grandmother of actor Eric Roberts and actress Julia Roberts. Lila presently hosts “Connect the Dots” on Pacifica’s KPFK-AM radio in Los Angeles. She was Southern California Chair of the 2004 Kucinich campaign, and past president of Southern California Americans for Democratic Action. She has served on the boards of the ACLU, the Venice Family Clinic and the Writers Guild of America. She founded Americans against War in Iraq, and is a founding boardmember of the California Clean Money Campaign.
Career[]
As as TV screenwriter, producer and director, Lila has won two Emmys and the Writers Guild Award. She developed the short-lived CBS-TV sitcom series Baby, I'm Back, which co-starred Demond Wilson (of the NBC sitcom Sanford & Son) and Denise Nicholas (Room 222 and later, with Carroll O'Connor on In The Heat of The Night). Lila helped to write two All in the Family episodes, "Et Tu, Archie" and "The Threat" of which she aided in the story and the original teleplay.
