Richard Masur (born November 20, 1948) appears on All in the Family as George Bushmill, a mentally retarded man friend of Gloria and Mike, and a stock boy at Ferguson's Market, who then lands a job at the Pendergast Tool & Die where Archie works in the fourth season episode titled "Gloria's Boyfriend". A talented and versatile actor who has appeared in more than 80 movies during his career, from 1995-1999, Richard served two terms as president of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). Richard presently sits on the Corporate Board of the Motion Picture & Television Fund.[1]

Early life and career[]

Born in New York City to a high school teacher mother and a pharmacist father,[2]young Richard attended P.S. 28, Walt Whitman Junior High School, and then Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, NY. Richard is the brother of Judith Masur and the husband of Eileen Henry.

Richard studied acting at The Yale School of Drama and appeared on stage before acting in movies and television shows during the 1970s. He had recurring roles in Rhoda from 1974 to 1978; One Day at a Time from 1975 to 1976; the short-lived ABC-TV sitcom series Hot L Baltimore in 1975; and the pilot to another short-lived series, the NBC sitcom, Bumpers, in 1977. In January 2006, he began appearing as a recurring character on the soap opera All My Children. He has also appeared in guest spots on many TV shows, including M*A*S*H, Hawaii Five-0, Happy Days, Picket Fences, Matlock, Murphy Brown and Law & Order.

Notable roles[]

Richard played the role of Martin Stone in the off-Broadway play Dust. Masur also played the role of a character modeled after Jewish-American spy Jonathan Pollard in the film Les patriotes (1994), by French director Éric Rochant and he played the adult Stan Uris in the two-part miniseries of Stephen King's It in 1990. In 1981, Masur also played the role of a child molestor armed with a camera in the TV film Fallen Angel.
